TECHNOLOGY

Clean Rig Power has six granted U.S. patents and utilizes proven battery technology to modernize existing conventional well servicing rigs by replacing the diesel engine with a high-performance electric traction motor and battery package.

The batteries are charged by capturing kinetic energy through the use of a regenerative braking system as well as power from the grid or an attached mobile “shuttle”.

The Clean Rig Power conversion kit will pay for itself in 3-4 years of operation. After installation of the conversion kit you will no longer have fuel costs, oil filter and oil changes, R&M or down time for refueling, a savings of over $50,000 annually.

The removal of the diesel engine and components and installation of an electric motor and batteries is weight-neutral, and does not require additional weight & licensing permitting. .

All of these upgrades are completed on existing rig’s frame, without significant modification to the carrier frame, and is compatible with existing tongs, slips, and equipment.

The UTS and the Clean Rig Power team have developed a novel solution to allow Class 8 well service rigs to become zero emission fully electric vehicles with improved safety and controls.  The team has implemented a 470HP (350kW) electric motor and 4-speed Automated Manual transmission to replace the 13-15L diesel engine.  The zero-speed high-torque response, and full range complete torque and speed control of the electric motor, will allow the Clean Rig Power vehicle to control the drawworks without relying solely on clutches and brakes.

And with regenerative braking, the energy from lowering pipe into the well utilized. saved. Similar to the traction system, the hydraulic system is speed and torque controlled for precise control over hydraulic actuators and accurate setting of torque on the tongs. Finally, with DC Quick Charging capabilities, connections to the well, a home base charger, or even a mobile charging station, give the operator versatility in deploying their Clean Rig well service rig.
